Aggregation- There was an aggregation of math teachers who needed to decide what curriculum they'd teach next year.

Agressive- Since the basketball player was so agressive on offense he was often the teams leading scorer.

Degradation- The man was surprised when he saw how much the value of his car, that he bought six years ago, had degraded.

Digress- Our conversation on politics gradually digressed to religion.

Egregious- Due to him fouling out every game the basketball player was egregious. 

Gracious- The teacher was feeling rather gracious when she decides to extend the deadline of the project.

Gratuity- Since they came in such a large party the family gave the waiter a generous gratuity.

Gregarious- Sheeps are gregarious.

Hospice- The elderly woman with no living kin had to live in a hospice home when she eventually couldn't live independently.

Hostel- The newlywed couple who had been driving for hours were relieved when they finally spotted a hostel.

Ingratiate- The prom queen candidate ingratiated herself by handing out candy.

Inhospitiable- The disapproving father was inhospitiable to his daughter's boyfriend. 

Ebola Questions

1. Hospitals not being able to handle an Ebola patient and doctors and nurses not properly protecting themselves from contracting the virus is the problem according to author, Betsy McCaughey.

2. She offers the solution of moving Ebola patients to bio-containment centers instead of trying to equip hospitals to handle and treat Ebola without it infecting others.

3. Infection expert, Sean Kaufman, called the CDC guidelines "absolutely irresponsible and dead wrong." 

4. Rep. Michael Burgess makes the point that people like CDC head Thonas Frieden are underestimating how deadly this virus is. He made that point by talking about how Frieden claimed any hospital could handle Ebola and irronically he later died from Ebola when he visited Texas Health Presbyterian where he was infected.

5. Yes I do agree with McCaugheys opinion to rely on bio-containment facilities because from the evidence she provided in her article hospitals are not capable of handling Ebola while bio-containment facilities on the other hand seem like a better bet. 

Article Summary

In the National Geographic article titled, "Cute Killers?" Traci Watson explains why grey seals who are often viewed as adorable and cuddly are actually vicious killers. First Watson gives us an example of this by including a story from a professional marine biologist, Sebastian Fuhrmann, that talks about how a grey seal tore apart a young harbor seal. Next the author includes facts about large numbers of mangled harbor porpoise carcasses beginning to wash up along the southeastern region of the North Sea about a decade ago. She then gives convincing statements on why grey seals may be the cause for all the harbor porpoises death. She also includes many stories of people actually seeing grey seals attacking a harbor porpoise by locking its jaws onto the porpoise's head.  In addition to all these examples the author also explains how scientists have been able to find actual grey deal DNA in the carcasses of harbor porpoises. Finally the author explains the theory that maybe the grey seals we thought were adorable aren't so adorable and instead commit gruesome attacks on mammals much larger than them like the harbor porpoise.

Confluence- If you hike down far enough you can see the confluence of the adjacent streams

Effusive- After years of domestic abuse the women finally became effusive.
Forte- Generally math is not most females forte.
Fortify- The team fortified their chemistry by spending large amounts of time together.
Fortitude- The young cancer patient endured chemotherapy with great fortitude.
Fraternize- The two grown men who had been college roommates fraternized.
Fratricide- The power hungry son fratricides his elder brother who was next in line for the throne.
Mellifluous- The sweet voice of the young singer was mellifluous.
Profusion- There was a profusion of angry Seahawk fans.
Superfluous- Kobe Bryant's contract of 24 million dollars is superfluous.

Opinion Article

I When you think of professional, or even college, coaches for male teams you think of a strong, dominate figure. Now when I said the words strong and dominate you most likely thought of a male figure. That's the problem, you only thought of male coach. Women have never been given a chance to prove they are capable to coach a male team and be successful while they do it. It's no secret females are constantly stereotyped, in fact sometimes females even stereotype themselves. If you were asked to describes females you may use some words such as sensitive, delicate, maybe even timid, but that's not how all females are. Women can be just as strong and dominate as males. Some male athletes may not take a female coach as seriously as they would a male, but I'm sure with time and discipline a woman could gain her players respect. It doesn't matter if your male or female you can be a great coach if you work hard enough. An argument some may have is that women can't understand sports like men can, which is a completely invalid argument. Males are not born with a special ability to understand sports better than females, anyone who watches or studies a sport can gain knowledge about it. Coaching is not for every female, some just don't have the dedication. On the other hand there are woman who are willing to be just as dedicated as men. If females work as hard as males they can eventually become just as good if not better coaches than men are. A perfect example of a female who worked hard and became a phenomenal coach is Pat Summitt who coached at the university of Tennessee. Her overall record is 1,098 wins and only 208 losses. She has an impressive win percentage of 84 percent. I took Summitt's career and compared to another great college coach, Geno Auriemma, who is a male coach at Connecticut. When I compared the two I saw that Geno's win percentage was only one percent higher than Summitt's. I also noticed that in the 2009 season Auriemma had 39 wins while Pat had 32 wins. Although Geno Auriemma's coaching states are a slightly higher than Pat Summitts her career stats are very close and just as impressive. In a society where we accept everything I don't know why there hasn't been a female coaching a male's professional or college team yet. Why is it ok that playing, understanding, or coaching a sport is still associated with men? Women need to be given a chance to coach a males team in order to end many stereotypes and to prove that females can accomplish anything they desire despite others opinions.

Leopard Man Questions

9. Tom Leppard is called Leopard Man because he has tattooed his entire body in leopard print and he often lives/acts like a wild animal. 

10. The author thinks people with extreme tattoos and piercings are attention seekers and he thinks this because he believes some people are psycollogically dependent on others opinions.

11. Leopard Man is different from other tattooed and pierced people because he doesn't desire people's reactions, he is the way he is because it makes him happy.

13. According to Feys society fears people who are different from the majority of the crowd and they fear them because they do not understand them.

14. The "worlds most common but dangerous physiological disorder" is conformity. Conformity is the worse disorder because it can lead to the suppression and destruction of one's self.

15. Leopard Man is so happy because he is doing what he enjoys and he is not subjected nor does he care about the opinions of society.

Diction

1. "I only climbed on the spare spar and leaned over the rail as far as I could, to bring my eyes nearer to the mystery floating alongside."

With a gasp I saw revealed to my state  a pair of feet, the long legs, a broad livid back immersed right up to the neck in a greenish pale glow 

3. The authors elevated tone makes it fell much more suspenseful and mysterious, while paraphrasing the passage diminished that and made it sound boring. 

4.   " a broad livid back immersed right up to the neck in a greenish cadaverous glow." Cadaverous describes the mans glow 

"As he hung by the ladder, like a resting swimmer, the sea lightning played about his limbs at every stir, and he appeared ghastly, silvery, fishlike. Ghastly and silvery describe how he appeared and was fishlike

"The side of the ship made an opaque belt of shadow in the darkling glassy shimmer of the sea." Opaque describes what kind of shadow the boat castes 

"And that I suppose he raised up his face , a dimly pale oval in the shadow of the ships side.." Dimly pale oval describes how the mans face look

 5. I think the author left the ship and  crew nameless because he wanted to add to the mystery of this story
