Leopard Man Questions

9. Tom Leppard is called Leopard Man because he has tattooed his entire body in leopard print and he often lives/acts like a wild animal. 

10. The author thinks people with extreme tattoos and piercings are attention seekers and he thinks this because he believes some people are psycollogically dependent on others opinions.

11. Leopard Man is different from other tattooed and pierced people because he doesn't desire people's reactions, he is the way he is because it makes him happy. 

12. Leopard Man lives in solitude in a small cabin in the Scottish wilderness.

13. According to Feys society fears people who are different from the majority of the crowd and they fear them because they do not understand them.

14. The "worlds most common but dangerous physiological disorder" is conformity. Conformity is the worse disorder because it can lead to the suppression and destruction of one's self.

15. Leopard Man is so happy because he is doing what he enjoys and he is not subjected nor does he care about the opinions of society.

Diction

1. "I only climbed on the spare spar and leaned over the rail as far as I could, to bring my eyes nearer to the mystery floating alongside." 

2. Opaque: not able to be seen through; not transparent 
The side of the ship made it hard to see part of the ocean clearly

Elongated: usually in relation to its width 
But I saw something a certain size and plae floating very close to the ladder 

Phosphorescent: when something glows with light 
But I could form a guess a faint flash of glowing light 

Cadaverous: resembling a corpse in being very pale, thin, or bony 
With a gasp I saw revealed to my state  a pair of feet, the long legs, a broad livid back immersed right up to the neck in a greenish pale glow 

3. The authors elevated tone makes it fell much more suspenseful and mysterious, while paraphrasing the passage diminished that and made it sound boring. 

4.   " a broad livid back immersed right up to the neck in a greenish cadaverous glow." Cadaverous describes the mans glow 

"As he hung by the ladder, like a resting swimmer, the sea lightning played about his limbs at every stir, and he appeared ghastly, silvery, fishlike. Ghastly and silvery describe how he appeared and was fishlike

"The side of the ship made an opaque belt of shadow in the darkling glassy shimmer of the sea." Opaque describes what kind of shadow the boat castes 

"And that I suppose he raised up his face , a dimly pale oval in the shadow of the ships side.." Dimly pale oval describes how the mans face look

 5. I think the author left the ship and  crew nameless because he wanted to add to the mystery of this story 

6. The title means to share something with someone, but secretly.

Connotation: gives a negative feeling of death or sickness 

Darkling denotation: of or relating to growing darkness 
Connotation: negative feeling of impending doom 

Pale denotation: light in color or having little color 
Connotation: sounds like it could be associated with a corpse 

Phosphorescence denotation: when something glows with light
Connotation: something supernatural 

Ghastly denotation: causing great horror or fear
Connotation: suspenseful and scary 

Headless denotation: not having a head 
Connotation: supernatural 

Fishlike denotation: like a fish 
Connotation: cold, slimy, shady
